I'm Daria. *bows* Nice to meet you. Come on in and have a look around, and feel free to add me to your friends list. Most of these entries are accessible to everyone; more private things can sometimes be found over at
I am a convert to the Holy Orthodox Church. I firmly believe that it is the only (100%) true faith, although both myself and my religious practice are flawed and in need of Christ's mercy. I have friends of other faiths and love to tell others about Orthodoxy, although I do try to stay away from "religious fights" and mud-slinging. I am working out my salvation from day to day in fear and trembling.
Politically, I'm Paleo-Conservative/ Libertarian. I believe that the United States Constitution is a venerable and, yes, sacred document that must be abided by without interference from activist judges. I believe in small government, low taxes, and personal freedom. I believe that churches and schools can do a better job of helping and educating people than the Department of Education and the welfare state, and I believe that the separation of church and state does not imply the exclusion of religious people from public life. (However, for the record, Mike Huckabee and his theocratic ideas scare the heck out of me!)
My husband Andrew and I were married on April 8th, 2005, shortly before I began attending an Orthodox Church (I was chrismated on November 11th, 2006) He was Roman Catholic at the time, although he has since (by the grace of God!) embraced the Apostolic Faith, being received and chrismated on Holy Saturday, 2007. We have 5 neurotic and often very naughty cats: Milo, Hafiz, Amati, Copernicus, and Leonard.
I can be found on Twitter as Inchworm, and I'm also on Facebook (although you'll have to ask me in a comment for my name there, since I'd rather not put so many details on a public LiveJournal profile.)
By profession, I am a classical singer, voice teacher, and harpist. I hold BM and MM degrees in voice from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey; during my time there I was elected to Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Pi Kappa Lamdba (the national musician's honor society). I teach voice and piano at the Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey, and also at the Trenton Community Music School and the Academy of Music on Main Street in Spotswood. I perform often in the tri-state area and also occasionally in Canada and other areas of the United States. I've been privileged to also perform in Chile, Peru, and Italy.
I've recently decided to adopt Christian Veganism. Orthodox monastics are vegetarian, and although I'm a laywoman I've come to the conclusion, after months of research and thought, that the vegans have the moral high ground here: I can't justify killing something so that I can eat, and conditions on mass dairy farms are often so inhumane that I can't justify purchasing their milk or cheese, either. Perhaps I could still allow myself these luxuries if I only bought from small micro-dairies whose practices I'd become familiar with, but at this point in my life I don't have the time for all of that investigating, so vegan it is. I'm really going to miss cheese. Luckily in today's world there are some pretty amazing vegan alternatives that even have meltability. Anyway, my dedicated vegan blog can be found over at Daria's Vegan Feedbag
